What is a Mini-Hammock Swing?
A Mini-Hammock Swing is a tool that many occupational therapists use to address issues revolving around the vestibular system, visual processing, and proprioception. These swings are perfect for use in the home and therapy clinic and for most people theses are used as the very foundation for Occupational Therapy.
Here at Affordable Therapy Solutions we strive to produce the best Mini-Hammock Swings we can they are very durable and can hold up to 200lbs. The Mini-Hammock Swing differs from some of the other swings because instead of providing a flat stable surface to sit on it is all cloth and when your child is in it pressure is evenly distributed over their entire body. Most children suffering from Sensory Integration Disorder or Autism respond incredibly well to pressure evenly distributed across their body.
Who uses them?
These Mini-Hammock Swings used to be exclusively available to Therapy Clinics and Occupational Therapists due to the high cost and limited availability. This is no longer the case and we highly encourage the use of it in the home because it’s a great tool that can be used for self-calming and can encourage communication.
Our Mini-Hammock Swing is a great tool to stimulate various systems in our bodies that they are used to treat many different disorders such as Autism, ADHD, Asperger’s, and Sensory Integration Disorder.
How should I use them?
The Affordable Therapy Solutions Mini-Hammock Swing should be used with Adult supervision. To start begin by having your child sit on the end and slowly slide into the swing and have another person push or pull the swing. This provides the repetitive swinging motion as well as the pressure.
As mentioned before communication can better be developed by periodically stopping the swinging and asking them if they want to continue. Since it is an enjoyable event they will be more inclined to find a way to communicate verbally or non-verbally.
